{"id":1206,"date":"2010-11-21T20:01:01","date_gmt":"2010-11-22T00:01:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.broadstreetbelievers.com\/?p=1206"},"modified":"2010-11-21T20:01:01","modified_gmt":"2010-11-22T00:01:01","slug":"bsb-mlb-awards-pleasant-surprises-and-disappointments","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/broadstreetbelievers.com\/?p=1206","title":{"rendered":"BSB MLB Awards: Pleasant Surprises and Disappointments"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Along with all the normal awards, BSB has also cast votes for the &#8220;pleasant surprises&#8221; and most<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" title=\"bautista\" src=\"http:\/\/assets.gearlive.com\/endscore\/blogimages\/jose-bautista.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"353\" \/> disappointing players in each league in 2010.\u00a0 So, before we get to the MVP awards in a day or two, here are the players that didn&#8217;t do what we expected this season, for better or worse.<\/p>\n<p><strong>NL Pleasant Surprise Player of the Year:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"color: #000000;\">BRY:<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Carlos Gonzalez<\/strong>-COL (.336, 34 HR)<\/li>\n<li>Mat Latos-SD (2.92 ERA, 14 wins)<\/li>\n<li>Aubrey Huff-SF (.290, 26 HR)<\/li>\n<li>Brett Myers-HOU (3.14 ERA, 14 wins)<\/li>\n<li>Omar Infante-ATL (.321)<\/li>\n<li>R.A. Dickey-NYM (2.84 ERA, 11 wins)<\/li>\n<li>Hunter Pence-HOU (.282, 25 HR)<\/li>\n<li>Pat Burrell-SF (.252, 20 HR)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><em>DOOGAN:<\/em><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>R.A. Dickey<\/strong>-NYM<\/li>\n<li>Aubrey Huff-SF<\/li>\n<li>Kelly Johnson-ARZ (.284, 26 HR)<\/li>\n<li>Andres Torres-SF (16 HR, 26 SB)<\/li>\n<li>Carlos Ruiz-PHI (.302, .400 OBP)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Not including Gonzalez was probably an oversight by me, but I think after he dominated the Phillies in the &#8217;09 LDS, I was expecting a good year from him.\u00a0 Not THAT good, though.\u00a0 That season from Dickey came out of absolutely nowhere.<\/p>\n<p><strong>AL Pleasant Surprise Player of the Year:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"color: #000000;\">BRY:<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Jose Bautista<\/strong>-TOR (54 HR, 124 RBI)<\/li>\n<li>Adrian Beltre-BOS (.321, 28 HR)<\/li>\n<li>Trevor Cahill-OAK (2.97 ERA, 18 wins)<\/li>\n<li>C.J. Wilson-TEX (3.35 ERA, 15 wins)<\/li>\n<li>Colby Lewis-TEX (3.72 ERA, 12 wins)<\/li>\n<li>Dallas Braden-OAK (3.50 ERA, 11 wins)<\/li>\n<li>Shaun Marcum-TOR (.3.64 ERA, 13 wins)<\/li>\n<li>Gio Gonzalez-OAK (3.23 ERA, 15 wins)<\/li>\n<li>Jered Weaver-LAA (3.01 ERA, 13 wins)<\/li>\n<li>Brett Cecil-TOR (4.22 ERA, 15 wins)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><em>DOOGAN:<\/em><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Jose Bautista<\/strong>-TOR<\/li>\n<li>Colby Lewis-TEX<\/li>\n<li>Carl Pavano-MIN (3.75 ERA, 17 wins)<\/li>\n<li>Delmon Young-MIN (.298, 21 HR)<\/li>\n<li>Brett Gardner-NYY (.383 OBP, 47 SB)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>As Bry said, Bautista was the easiest choice for any award.\u00a0 The 29-year-old&#8217;s career high in HR was 16 before he launched 54 this year.\u00a0 Bry put 8 pitchers along with Bautista and Beltre.\u00a0 Colby Lewis makes second on my list after spending the last couple of years in Japan before playing a key role in the rotation of a division champion for Texas this year.<\/p>\n<p><strong>NL Disappointing Player of the Year:<\/strong><\/p>\n<div><em><span style=\"color: #000000;\">BRY:<\/span><\/em><\/div>\n<div><em><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/em><\/div>\n<div><em><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><\/span><\/em><\/div>\n<p><em><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 330px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"bay\" src=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/_TKMDKDvl7rg\/TEYyHJO60HI\/AAAAAAAANA4\/hdt89pmMOHE\/s1600\/Mets+-+Jason+Bay+4.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"320\" height=\"221\" \/><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Minaya is gone, but his handiwork remains!<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Jason Bay<\/strong>-NYM (.259, 6 HR)<\/li>\n<li>Danny Haren-ARZ\/LAA (3.91 ERA, 12 losses)<\/li>\n<li>Justin Upton-ARZ (.273, 17 HR)<\/li>\n<li>Aaron Rowand-SF (.230)<\/li>\n<li>Jose Reyes-NYM (.321 OBP)<\/li>\n<li>Derek Lee-CHC\/ATL (.260, 19 HR)<\/li>\n<li>Pablo Sandoval-SF (.268, 13 HR)<\/li>\n<li>Jonathan Broxton-LAD (4.04 ERA)<\/li>\n<li>Paul Maholm-PIT (5.10 ERA, 15 losses)<\/li>\n<li>Dexter Fowler-COL (.260, 13 SB)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><em>DOOGAN:<\/em><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Pablo Sandoval<\/strong>-SF<\/li>\n<li>Jonathan Broxton-LAD<\/li>\n<li>Pedro Feliz-HOU\/STL (.218, 5 HR)<\/li>\n<li>Kyle Lohse-STL (6.55 ERA in 18 starts)<\/li>\n<li>Chris Coghlan-FLA (.268)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Another oversight by me by not having Bay on this list.\u00a0 Sandoval&#8217;s average dropped over 60 points, and his home runs were cut in half from &#8217;09.\u00a0 Last year&#8217;s NL Rookie of the Year, Coghlan, saw his average\u00a0drop over 50 points.<\/p>\n<p><strong>AL Disappointing Player of the Year:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"color: #000000;\">BRY:<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Josh Beckett<\/strong>-BOS (5.78 ERA, 6 wins in 21 starts)<\/li>\n<li>Javier Vazquez-NYY (5.32 ERA, 10 losses)<\/li>\n<li>Chone Figgins-SEA (.259)<\/li>\n<li>Zack Greinke-KC (4.17 ERA, 14 losses)<\/li>\n<li>Jake Peavy-CHW (4.63 ERA in 17 starts)<\/li>\n<li>B.J.
