{"id":1830,"date":"2011-03-13T19:35:06","date_gmt":"2011-03-13T23:35:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.broadstreetbelievers.com\/?p=1830"},"modified":"2011-03-13T21:37:13","modified_gmt":"2011-03-14T01:37:13","slug":"tournament-bracket-selections-initial-reactions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/broadstreetbelievers.com\/?p=1830","title":{"rendered":"Tournament Bracket Selections: Initial Reactions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Well, here are some unfiltered, unedited initial reactions to the brackets.\u00a0 These opinions might change by Thursday&#8230;or tonight&#8230;but they are immediate.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Even I &#8211; the ultimate defender of the mid-major &#8211; cannot really defend VCU or UAB.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>But, that being said, I don&#8217;t mind leaning on RPI, and Alabama, Colorado, and Va Tech really didn&#8217;t play ANYONE in the non-conference.\u00a0 I love that the Committee is saying &#8220;Play good games in November and December,&#8221;\u00a0 You why I like that?\u00a0 Because I like WATCHING good games in November and December.\u00a0 So, we should all applaud the Committee for leaving out teams like Colorado (non-conference SOS of 335).<\/li>\n<li>I do think St. Mary&#8217;s deserved to be in and probably Harvard, too.<\/li>\n<li>It&#8217;s hysterical that Va Tech missed the tournament AGAIN.\u00a0 I just wish we got Seth Greenberg&#8217;s immediate reaction.\u00a0 Honestly, what do you think he did when he say VCU up there?<\/li>\n<li>UConn &#8211; Cincy favored to meet in the second round?\u00a0 I guess it&#8217;s hard to avoid with 11 teams from one conference, but wow.\u00a0 Also, if Marquette upsets Xavier (certainly possibly), they will take on Syracuse in the second round.<\/li>\n<li>Missouri falls all the way to 11, while Nova gets a 9?<\/li>\n<li>Georgia in SAFELY with a 10-seed?<\/li>\n<li>Utah State got SCREWED with a 12-seed.\u00a0 What are they supposed to do?<\/li>\n<li>The Southeast (Pitt&#8217;s region) is really, really weak.\u00a0 An overseeded Florida, a\u00a0short-handed BYU, and a Wisconsin team that is going to lose to Belmont.\u00a0 There is a chance &#8211; I know it sounds crazy &#8211; that Michigan State goes to the Elite Eight and, possibly, the Final Four again.\u00a0 Yes, a 10-seed.<\/li>\n<li>I think Marquette is a pretty nice underdog Sweet 16 pick.<\/li>\n<li>Best First-Round games:\u00a0 Vanderbilt-Richmond and\u00a0Butler-ODU<\/li>\n<li>Call it wishful thinking:\u00a0 I wouldn&#8217;t be completely shocked to see N.Colorado to beat San Diego State.\u00a0 Interesting because there have only been three 15-seeds winning over a 2.\u00a0 And, in two of the cases, that 15-seed ended up playing Temple in the second round.\u00a0 So, the Owls have benefitted from that kind of upset before.<\/li>\n<li>I love how the Committee never &#8220;thinks about matchups,&#8221; yet you always get things like this:\u00a0 Josh Pastor against Arizona and the Illinois taking on Lon Kruger in the first round and then, if they win, Bill Self in the second round.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Well, here are some unfiltered, unedited initial reactions to the brackets.\u00a0 These opinions might change by Thursday&#8230;or tonight&#8230;but they are immediate.
