{"id":228,"date":"2008-12-24T15:01:48","date_gmt":"2008-12-24T20:01:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.broadstreetbelievers.com\/?p=228"},"modified":"2008-12-24T15:04:13","modified_gmt":"2008-12-24T20:04:13","slug":"holiday-sports-watching","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/broadstreetbelievers.com\/?p=228","title":{"rendered":"Holiday Sports Watching"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>-I watched some of the fourth quarter of the Poinsettia Bowl last night, which TCU won in a tight one over Boise State.\u00a0 I don&#8217;t how long ESPN has been doing this, but they had something called &#8220;Interactive Tuesday&#8221; happening during the game.\u00a0 For anyone who hasn&#8217;t witnessed this abomination of sports television, &#8220;Interactive Tuesday&#8221; means that throughout the game, comments from random people on the internet are scrolled across the top of the game.\u00a0 This results in such amazing insights as &#8220;G-Dog2432: TCU rules!!! They should be in a BCS Conference!!!!!&#8221;.\u00a0 You know when you watch a Youtube clip, and then you start reading some of the comments\u00a0below the clip?\u00a0 Then, after reading about four or five of them, you not only feel much dumber, but you feel\u00a0angry that you just had a\u00a0minute of your life stolen\u00a0by the internet.\u00a0 &#8220;Interactive Tuesday&#8221; is like having those comments jammed down\u00a0your throat,\u00a0while you try to watch a sporting event.\u00a0 This is horrible and it\u00a0must stop.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve often defended ESPN, but they&#8217;ve gone WAY over the line here.\u00a0 I just hope to\u00a0God no one at Fox Sports gets wind of this&#8230;.<\/p>\n<p>-Speaking of ESPN,\u00a0I&#8217;ll give you three guesses\u00a0what they&#8217;re running a story\u00a0about right now on Sportscenter on the day before Christmas.\u00a0 If you didn&#8217;t guess &#8220;Philly\u00a0fans booed Santa Claus&#8221;, then apparently you haven&#8217;t watched sports or read about sports\u00a0around Christmas any time over the last 40 years.\u00a0 Now, in ESPN&#8217;s defense, this story\u00a0goes in-depth and explains WHY\u00a0Santa Claus was booed (because he was drunk and falling all over the place).\u00a0 But that&#8217;s not the point.\u00a0 Even if Philly fans\u00a0had booed a legitimate Santa, forty years ago, this story has been beaten to death and nobody cares.\u00a0 It&#8217;s absolutely lazy journalism at its worst.\u00a0 Anyone that\u00a0even mentions\u00a0it from now on is a\u00a0terrible journalist and a terrible\u00a0person.\u00a0 There I said it.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"1\" vspace=\"5\" align=\"left\" width=\"300\" src=\"http:\/\/i.a.cnn.net\/si\/2008\/writers\/seth_davis\/01\/08\/buy.sell\/hill.jpg\" hspace=\"5\" alt=\"jordan hill\" height=\"410\" \/>-And on a slightly more upbeat note on this Christmas Eve, I watched some of the Kansas-Arizona hoops game last night.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve been hearing some buzz about Zona&#8217;s Jordan Hill being a potential lottery pick.\u00a0 I couldn&#8217;t\u00a0understand it, because he\u00a0definitely didn&#8217;t look THAT good last year.\u00a0\u00a0Last night was the first time I&#8217;ve seen him this year, and he looks like a completely different player.\u00a0 He&#8217;s added a mid-range jump shot to his game, and he just\u00a0looks more athletic and explosive than he did last year.\u00a0 He has season averages of 19 points, 12 rebounds, and 2.7 blocks, which have to put him in the mix for an All-American spot.\u00a0 He clearly has the body of\u00a0an NBA\u00a0power forward\u00a0and, as a junior, he&#8217;s starting to look like he has the game to go along with it.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>-I watched some of the fourth quarter of the Poinsettia Bowl last night, which TCU won in a tight one over Boise State.\u00a0 I don&#8217;t how long ESPN has been doing this, but they had something called &#8220;Interactive Tuesday&#8221; happening &hellip; <a href=\"http:\/\/broadstreetbelievers.com\/?p=228\">Continue reading <span class=\"meta-nav\">&rarr;<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":3,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[9],"tags":[239,184,414,413],"class_list":["post-228","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-college-hoops","tag-arizona","tag-espn","tag-interactive-tuesday","tag-jordan-hill"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"http:\/\/broadstreetbelievers.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/228","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"http:\/\/broadstreetbelievers.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"http:\/\/broadstreetbelievers.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/broadstreetbelievers.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/3"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/broadstreetbelievers.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=228"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"http:\/\/broadstreetbelievers.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/228\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"http:\/\/broadstreetbelievers.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=228"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/broadstreetbelievers.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=228"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/broadstreetbelievers.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=228"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
