Glorious.\u00a0 Ridiculous.\u00a0 Hilarious.\u00a0 Perfect.\u00a0 These are\u00a0just some of the words that repeatedly came to mind as I watched the Eagles dismantle the Cowboys.\u00a0\u00a0Hilarious was probably\u00a0the winner though.\u00a0 As Joselio Hanson sprinted down the sideline for a 96-yard\u00a0fumble\u00a0return to make it\u00a041-3 in the 3rd Quarter, all I could do was cackle.\u00a0\u00a0Sunday was, without a doubt, the best regular season NFL day of my life.\u00a0<\/p>\n
A lot of things had to happen for the day to be as good as it was, and so I think some\u00a0‘thank you’s are in order.\u00a0 So here they are:<\/p>\n
Thank you Oakland Raiders and Houston Texans, for\u00a0not giving up and surmounting 10-point deficits (going into the 4th\u00a0quarter\u00a0in Oakland’s case) to win games that didn’t mean anything to you.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Thank you Wade Phillips, for coaching the Cowboys, for taking one of the most talented teams in the league and\u00a0not\u00a0getting\u00a0them to the playoffs, for being a players coach\u00a0on a team that needs the exact opposite, and for\u00a0your overall\u00a0lack of competence.<\/p>\n
Thank you Tony Romo, for choking\u00a0at every single opportunity in your career so far.\u00a0 The main highlights: dropping the snap in the playoff game\u00a0against\u00a0Seattle\u00a0two years ago, losing at home as the #1 seed in the divisional round last year, and this game against the Eagles.\u00a0 It’s a trait I truly value in a Cowboy quarterback.<\/p>\n
Thank you Andy Reid, for committing to the running game right from the start on Sunday, for\u00a0showing some emotion on the sideline,\u00a0and,\u00a0most of all, for\u00a0being the best coach in Eagle history.<\/p>\n
Thank you Brian Dawkins, for the two strips that led to touchdowns on Sunday, for the ‘Fly Eagles Fly’ dances after every![\"dawkins\"](\"http:\/\/www.wbt.com\/dynamic\/photo\/ap\/22b4c930-c619-4f42-a8ff-2c337e851370.jpeg\")
touchdown, for\u00a0being one of the best players to ever wear the Eagles uniform, and, whether or not\u00a0this was your last game at the Linc,\u00a0for going down as one of the most beloved athletes in Philly history.<\/p>\n
And\u00a0finally, thank you’s go out to the Miami Dolphins and the Baltimore Ravens for their\u00a0excellent seasons and wins on Sunday.\u00a0 Those wins kept the Patriots\u00a0sitting at home this postseason, and that is a beautiful thing.\u00a0 I love that the\u00a0Pats won 27 regular season games over the last two years and have just two playoff wins to show for it.<\/p>\n
It’s hard to explain what happened yesterday.\u00a0 We calculated a few weeks ago that the Eagles chances of making the playoffs at 9-6-1 were roughly 14%.\u00a0 Going into yesterday, it was probably no better than that.\u00a0 When the Bucs were up by 10 on Oakland, I got a Phillies championship DVD ready to\u00a0go, for when the Eagle season was officially over.\u00a0 I never had to hit play, because suddenly we were looking at a virtual playoff game with Dallas.\u00a0 T.O., Jerry Jones, Tony Romo, Pac-man Jones,\u00a0the ghosts of those Starred helmets, and every low-life Cowboys-fan-from-Philly that I’ve ever met over the last 15 years.\u00a0 It couldn’t set-up any more perfectly, to have these two teams meet on the last day of the season with a playoff berth on the line,\u00a0and to have the Eagles absolutely decimate them.\u00a0 What a way to end an incredible sports year in Philly.\u00a0 Thanks Eagles, now let’s keep it going!<\/p>\n
