{"id":278,"date":"2009-03-15T16:49:58","date_gmt":"2009-03-15T21:49:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.broadstreetbelievers.com\/?p=278"},"modified":"2009-03-15T16:50:47","modified_gmt":"2009-03-15T21:50:47","slug":"random-selection-sunday-tidbits","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/broadstreetbelievers.com\/?p=278","title":{"rendered":"Random Selection Sunday Tidbits"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This is my favorite day of the year.\u00a0 It always has been.\u00a0 It&#8217;s awesome.\u00a0 Just want to throw a couple random thoughts out.\u00a0 This is what I would do if I was the Selection Committee and\/or Czar of College Hoops.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Overall, I think that the\u00a0Committee should go out of their way to reward success\/punish failure in the conference tournaments, so that\u00a0teams care about them, even if they&#8217;re locks.\u00a0 I don&#8217;t think this is a problem (see the\u00a0Big East tournament), but I worry about it in the future, so set the precedent now.\u00a0 A lot of the following suggestions may have that taken into\u00a0consideration.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Louisville is clearly the #1 overall seed, in my mind.\u00a0 Not that this matters, but still.\u00a0 They won the regular season and tournament in the best conference we&#8217;ve seen in a very long time.\u00a0 I don&#8217;t care (much) about the unbalanced schedules, they were the best team, by both measures, in the best conference.<\/li>\n<li>I think Memphis should displace either UConn or Pitt as a #1 seed because they won their tournament and neither of them even won a game.\u00a0 I, personally, think Pitt should stay because they beat UConn twice, but I wouldn&#8217;t mind if it was the other way around.\u00a0 However, I don&#8217;t think it really matters because Memphis and UConn (or Pitt) will be the overall #4 and #5, so they will be in the same bracket and should end up playing each other in the Elite Eight.<\/li>\n<li>I hate the play-in game.\u00a0 I am passionately in favor of expansion&#8211;but only to 68.\u00a0 I think there should be a quadruple-header in Dayton on Tuesday with the last 8 at-large bids.\u00a0 It&#8217;s an easy fix, with NO FLAWS.\u00a0 It gives every &#8220;little guy&#8221; a shot at Cinderella.\u00a0 It gets three more &#8220;big guys&#8221; into the tournament.\u00a0 And, it gets people to ACTUALLY CARE about Tuesday in Dayton.\u00a0 Plus, the ratings would be off the charts.<\/li>\n<li>I know that it&#8217;s &#8220;all about the economy&#8221; this year, but I also HATE teams that play homes games.\u00a0 I know it&#8217;s tough because what constitutes a &#8220;home game,&#8221; but I think it&#8217;s clear that Villanova in Philly, Duke in Winston-Salem, and Florida in Tampa are &#8220;home games.&#8221;\u00a0 I really hate it, actually.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Okay, gotta run and get ready for the best hour of the year.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This is my favorite day of the year.\u00a0 It always has been.\u00a0 It&#8217;s awesome.\u00a0 Just want to throw a couple random thoughts out.\u00a0 This is what I would do if I was the Selection Committee and\/or Czar of College Hoops. &hellip; <a href=\"http:\/\/broadstreetbelievers.com\/?p=278\">Continue reading <span class=\"meta-nav\">&rarr;<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[9],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-278","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-college-hoops"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"http:\/\/broadstreetbelievers.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/278","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"http:\/\/broadstreetbelievers.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"http:\/\/broadstreetbelievers.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/broadstreetbelievers.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/broadstreetbelievers.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=278"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"http:\/\/broadstreetbelievers.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/278\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"http:\/\/broadstreetbelievers.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=278"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/broadstreetbelievers.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=278"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/broadstreetbelievers.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=278"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
