{"id":3240,"date":"2012-08-30T07:00:19","date_gmt":"2012-08-30T11:00:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.broadstreetbelievers.com\/?p=3240"},"modified":"2012-09-05T10:07:57","modified_gmt":"2012-09-05T14:07:57","slug":"nfl-week-by-week-preview-week-seven","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/broadstreetbelievers.com\/?p=3240","title":{"rendered":"NFL Week-by-Week Preview: Week Seven"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Around now in the NFL season is when teams start to assert themselves as either true contenders or everybody else.\u00a0 The Packers are the only remaining unbeaten team after a big win over the Texans in Week Six.\u00a0 The Colts and Raiders are still winless.<\/p>\n<h1>Thursday Night<\/h1>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Seattle (1-5) at SAN FRANCISCO (4-2)<\/span> &#8211; Vegas: 49ers -7<br \/>\nThe home team on a short week is simply the better team.\u00a0 <strong>49ers (easy)<\/strong><\/p>\n<h1>Sunday, Early Afternoon<\/h1>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Tennessee (3-3) at BUFFALO (3-3)<\/span> &#8211; Vegas: Bills -3.5<br \/>\nThe Titans have 10 days to prepare for this game, and the Bills are coming back from back-to-back games on the West Coast.\u00a0 Even for a guy who actually believes in the Bills being much improved and isn&#8217;t that high on the Titans, this is a tough one for me.\u00a0 But, all in all, I think the Bills should put it together and have the defense to really cause the Titans offense some problems.\u00a0 But, this is not a great spot for the Bills.\u00a0 <strong>Bills (close)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><!--more-->Washington (1-5) at N.Y.GIANTS (4-2)<\/span> &#8211; Vegas: Giants -7<br \/>\nThe Giants are coming back from a tough West Coast game, but the &#8216;Skins probably don&#8217;t have the firepower to cause any issues for them, though these NFC East matchups are always scary.\u00a0 <strong>Giants (moderate)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">New Orleans (4-1) at TAMPA BAY (3-2)<\/span> &#8211; Vegas: Saints -5.5<br \/>\nTwo weeks should be more than enough time for the Saints to devise a winning game plan in Tampa.\u00a0 <strong>Saints (easy)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Dallas (3-2) at CAROLINA (2-3)<\/span> &#8211; Vegas: Panthers -1<br \/>\nThe Cowboys, a week after a physical trip to Baltimore, get hammered by the schedule-makers\u00a0by having to go to Carolina to play a Panthers team coming off their bye.\u00a0 Not a good spot for the &#8216;Boys here.\u00a0 <strong>Panthers (moderate)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Baltimore (3-3) at HOUSTON (4-2)<\/span> &#8211; Vegas: Texans -3<br \/>\nMan, this Ravens schedule just doesn&#8217;t let up, does it?\u00a0 The Texas did play on Sunday Night last week, but it was a home game, so they haven&#8217;t left Houston in a couple of weeks.\u00a0 John Harbaugh must have pissed off someone in the scheduling office this year.\u00a0 <strong>Texans (close)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Cleveland (1-5) at INDIANAPOLIS (0-5)<\/span> &#8211; Vegas: Colts -3<br \/>\nThis is the spot for Andrew Luck to become a true NFL quarterback.\u00a0 I think they kid&#8217;s gonna be good, but not until now would I be disappointed if he didn&#8217;t lead his team to a win.\u00a0 This one, he should win.\u00a0 <strong>Colts (moderate)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Green Bay (6-0) at ST. LOUIS (3-3)<\/span> &#8211; Vegas: Packers -9.5<br \/>\nThe Packers are coming off a big Sunday Night game in Houston get a bit of a break against a team they should beat soundly to stay undefeated, though no road game in the NFL is automatic.\u00a0 <strong>Packers (moderate)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Arizona (3-3) at MINNESOTA (2-4)<\/span> &#8211; Vegas: Vikings -1<br \/>\nI think the Cardinals are probably the better team here, but West Coast teams at 1:00 need to be a lot better (or have something else working for them) to get road wins in the NFL.\u00a0 <strong>Vikings (close)<\/strong><\/p>\n<h1>Sunday, Late Afternoon<\/h1>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">N.Y.Jets (3-3) at NEW ENGLAND (5-1)<\/span> &#8211; Vegas: Patriots -8<br \/>\nThis is a really tricky spot for the Pats, actually.\u00a0 This is one week after a trip to Seattle and one week before a trip to London.\u00a0 If it wasn&#8217;t the hated Jets, they might come out flat.\u00a0 But, I can&#8217;t imagine they would not be up for a home game against Rex (who is sure to run his mouth beforehand).\u00a0 <strong>Patriots (moderate)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Jacksonville (2-3) at OAKLAND (0-5)<\/span> &#8211; Vegas: Raiders -5.5<br \/>\nWhen things go bad in Oakland, they can get out of control in a hurry.\u00a0 This game might be the difference between &#8220;bad&#8221; and &#8220;rock-bottom.&#8221;\u00a0 I am going with rock-bottom, as the Jags actually have a decent defense and, unless Blaine Gabbert is atrocious (certainly possible), their offense won&#8217;t be abysmal.\u00a0 Coming off of the bye, I&#8217;m taking the road &#8216;dog outright in this one.\u00a0 <strong>Jaguars (close)<\/strong><\/p>\n<h1>Sunday Night<\/h1>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Pittsburgh (4-1) at CINCINNATI (5-1)<\/span> &#8211; Vegas: Steelers -1.5<br \/>\nThese are the games that separate the league&#8217;s &#8220;elite&#8221; from everyone else.\u00a0 The Steelers are absolutely an elite franchise in this league, and these are the games where they prove it.\u00a0 <strong>Steelers (close)<\/strong><\/p>\n<h1>Monday Night<\/h1>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Detroit (2-3) at CHICAGO (2-3)<\/span> &#8211; Vegas: Bears -2.5<br \/>\nThe Bears are coming off the bye, and Soldier Field is not exactly a welcome place for the opposition when the Chicagoans have all day to, ahem, &#8220;prepare.&#8221;\u00a0 <strong>Bears (moderate)<\/strong><\/p>\n<h1>Standings After Week Seven<\/h1>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">NFC EAST:<\/span><br \/>\n<em>The Giants go back on top by a half-game ahead of the idle Eagles, while the Cowboys slip back<\/em><br \/>\n5-2 Giants<br \/>\n4-2 Eagles<br \/>\n3-3 Cowboys<br \/>\n1-6 Redskins<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">NFC NORTH:<\/span><br \/>\n<em>The Pack stays undefeated, while the Lions fall to last place<br \/>\n<\/em>7-0 Packers<br \/>\n3-3 Bears<br \/>\n3-4 Vikings<br \/>\n2-4 Lions<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">NFC SOUTH:<\/span><br \/>\n<em>The Saints up their lead to a full game with the Falcons on the bye, while the whole division is at least .500<br \/>\n<\/em>5-1 Saints<br \/>\n4-2 Falcons<br \/>\n3-3 Bucs<br \/>\n3-3 Panthers<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">NFC WEST:<br \/>\n<\/span><em>The Niners pick up a game on the entire rest of the division and are now 2 games clear<br \/>\n<\/em>5-2 49ers<br \/>\n3-4 Rams<br \/>\n3-4 Cardinals<br \/>\n1-6 Seahawks<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">AFC EAST:<\/span><br \/>\n<em>A big win for the Pats over the Jets keeps them with a comfortable lead in the AFC East<br \/>\n<\/em>6-1 Patriots<br \/>\n4-3 Bills<br \/>\n3-3 Dolphins<br \/>\n3-4 Jets<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">AFC NORTH:<\/span><br \/>\n<em>The Steelers take back first-place the old-fashioned way &#8211; by beating the team that was there before; the Ravens continue to slide<br \/>\n<\/em>5-1 Steelers<br \/>\n5-2 Bengals<br \/>\n3-4 Ravens<br \/>\n1-6 Browns<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">AFC SOUTH:<\/span><br \/>\n<em>The Colts get their first win under Andrew Luck, while the Jags emerge as possibly the biggest threat to Houston in the South<br \/>\n<\/em>5-2 Texans<br \/>\n3-3 Jaguars<br \/>\n3-4 Titans<br \/>\n1-5 Colts<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">AFC WEST:<br \/>\n<\/span><em>The Raiders are the only team that played this week, so at least no one else lost&#8230;<br \/>\n<\/em>3-3 Chargers<br \/>\n2-4 Chiefs<br \/>\n2-4 Broncos<br \/>\n0-6 Raiders<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Around now in the NFL season is when teams start to assert themselves as either true contenders or everybody else.\u00a0 The Packers are the only remaining unbeaten team after a big win over the Texans in Week Six.\u00a0 The Colts &hellip;
