Lynch (1 &#8211; WCC)<br \/>\n1076 &#8211; KA (1 &#8211; Big South*)<br \/>\n960 &#8211; Waters<\/p>\n<p><em>[individual game recaps in progress&#8230;]<\/em><\/p>\n<p><u><strong>BIG EAST QUARTERFINALS\u00a0ROUND<\/strong><em> (20 points each):<\/em><\/u><br \/>\nThe Thursday massacre leaves us a ridiculous Big East final four.\u00a0 There were four winners on Thursday, and there are 12 people in the CTC, so there were 48 picks yesterday in the Big East.\u00a0 Only 16 of them were correct.\u00a0 Through the first three games, we were a combined 6-for-36.\u00a0 J, Doogan, Lynch, Lil Lohse, and Teddy led the way with TWO correct yesterday.\u00a0 KA missed them all.<\/p>\n<p><em>#8 Georgetown 91 &#8211;\u00a0#1 Syracuse 84<\/em>.\u00a0 In this, the noon game, it looked like it was a just a nice game by the Hoyas to beat #1.\u00a0 But, no, it was the start of a landslide of losses for the favorites.\u00a0 No one had this.\u00a0\u00a0Both Lohses, Lynch, Waters, Stri, Doogan, J,\u00a0and Ina all lost their champs here.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><em>#5 Marquette\u00a080 &#8211;\u00a0#4 Villanova 76<\/em>.\u00a0 An impressive win for Marquette ends Villanova&#8217;s hopes for a Big East tournament title.\u00a0 Doogan and Lil Lohse were the only two that got this pick right.\u00a0 Alexi, KA, and Teddy all lost their champions.<\/p>\n<p><em>#7 Notre Dame 50 &#8211; #2 Pittsburgh 45<\/em>.\u00a0 And the third of the trifecta of upsets is an ugly, UGLY, Big East-style affair.\u00a0 Notre Dame is assuredly in the field of 65 now, but they have bigger fish to fry now, as they are only two wins from a most unlikely tournament title.\u00a0 Teddy, Lohse, Lynch, and J got this nice upset pick correct.\u00a0 Lohse keep alive a finalist.<\/p>\n<p><em>#3 West Virginia 54 &#8211; #11 Cincinnati 51<\/em>.\u00a0 Finally, a little normalcy&#8230;barely.\u00a0 It took a wild banked three at the buzzer for West Virginia to avoid overtime and an opportunity for an underdog sweep.\u00a0 Oh, and Bobby Huggins beat his alma mater to tie some guy named Wooden on the all-time wins list.\u00a0 Lohse and KA were the only two that lost this game (they had L&#8217;ville, so they were hoping for zeros across the board).\u00a0 The other ten actually all have WVU in the finals.\u00a0 Bry, though, is the only one that has WVU winning this tournament.\u00a0 In fact, of the 12 CTC&#8217;ers, Bry is the only one that didn&#8217;t lose his Big East champion on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>BIG EAST STANDINGS:<br \/>\n190 &#8211; #8 Texas Tech 68<\/em>.\u00a0 The #1 Jayhawks were in a dogfight for about 34 minutes, before pulling away and advancing to Friday&#8217;s semi.\u00a0 Everyone got this pick.\u00a0 Ten entries have KU as the champion here.<\/p>\n<p><em>#4\u00a0Texas A&amp;M 70 &#8211; #12 Nebraska 64<\/em>.\u00a0 Nebraska almost did it again, but fell six points short from back-to-back upsets.\u00a0 Doogan, Lynch, and Lil Lohse all missed this with Missouri, but the other nine had A&amp;M.<\/p>\n<p><em>#2 Kansas St. 83 &#8211; #7 Oklahoma St. 64<\/em>.\u00a0 K-State looked really good in a slaughter of Ok State.\u00a0 KA, Ina, J, Stri, and Alexi all got this right.\u00a0 KA kept her champ alive.\u00a0 Lynch and Lohse lost a finalist here.<\/p>\n<p><em>#3 Baylor 86 &#8211; #6 Texas 67<\/em>.\u00a0 After watching K-State dominate Ok State, Baylor went out and matched them, completely handing the Longhorns and moving on to face K-State on Friday.\u00a0 J, Waters, and KA missed on this upset pick.\u00a0 Doogan kept his champion alive.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>BIG XII STANDINGS:<br \/>\n120 &#8211; Lohse<br \/>\n60 &#8211; Doogan (&#8217;08)<br \/>\n60 &#8211; Lil Lohse<br \/>\n60 &#8211; Lynch<\/p>\n<p><u><strong>PAC-10 QUARTERFINALS <\/strong><em>(20 points each):<\/em><\/u><br \/>\nThe Pac-10 quarterfinals were nearly the nail in the coffin for this conference.\u00a0 For a while during the season, it looked like they might be a 1-bid league.\u00a0 But, then three teams emerged that had a real shot, including Cal, who is a sheer lock.\u00a0 And, with the other two (ASU and UW) in the bottom of the bracket, it looked like they would be playing for the bubble in the semis.\u00a0 But, then ASU lost.\u00a0 Then, Oregon St. had a 14-point lead on Washington.\u00a0 But, the Huskies responded and ended up taking it and keeping their at-large chances alive.\u00a0 J, Stri, Alexi, and Teddy all went 3-for-4 on the day.<\/p>\n<p><em>#5 UCLA\u00a075\u00a0&#8211; #4 Arizona 69<\/em>.\u00a0 UCLA is still alive, as they take out Arizona.\u00a0 And, it&#8217;s official&#8211;the longest NCAA tournament appearance streak in the country is over.\u00a0 I was 5 years old the last time the tournament didn&#8217;t have Arizona in it, but their name will not be called on Sunday.\u00a0 J, Stri, Alexi, and Teddy all got this upset pick right.\u00a0 Waters and KA lost a finalist.<\/p>\n<p><em>#1 California 90 &#8211; #8 Oregon 74<\/em>.\u00a0 The Bears showed the conference who the big dog is, beating up on Oregon in the second game.\u00a0 Everyone got this pick right.\u00a0 Bry, Ina, Doogan, and Alexi all kept their champ alive.<\/p>\n<p><em>#7 Stanford 70 &#8211; #2 Arizona St 61<\/em>.\u00a0 And, this was the big surprise of the day in LA.\u00a0 Johnny Dawkins&#8217; Cardinal probably ended the NCAA tournament hopes for the Sun Devils.\u00a0 Everyone got this wrong, but it hurt some more than others.\u00a0 J, Waters, and KA all lost their champ here.<\/p>\n<p><em>#3 Washington 59 &#8211; #6 Oregon St. 52<\/em>.\u00a0 Down big for a long time, but Isaiah Thomas and Malcolm Pondexter just took over, as they went on a 23-2 run midway through the second half to turn a 12-point deficit into a 9-point lead.\u00a0 The Huskies survived, despite scoring more than 20 points fewer than their season average.\u00a0\u00a0Everyone got this right, as UW was the most popular champion pick in this tournament.\u00a0 Stri, Lynch, both Lohses, and Teddy all have them taking this title.<\/p>\n<p>PAC-10 STANDINGS:<br \/>\n80 &#8211; Doogan (&#8217;08)<br \/>\n40 &#8211; Ina<br \/>\n30 &#8211; KA<br \/>\n30 &#8211; Waters<\/p>\n<p><u><strong>ACC OPENING ROUND<\/strong><em> (10 points each):<\/em><\/u><br \/>\nAs nuts as the Big East was, the ACC was just as crazy, it just wasn&#8217;t the high-profile teams that lost.\u00a0 But, the upsets that took place in Greensboro were probably even more surprising than those that took place in the NYC.<\/p>\n<p><em>#9 Virginia\u00a068\u00a0&#8211; #8 Boston College 62<\/em>.\u00a0 Tony Bennett can flat-out coach.\u00a0\u00a0He has taken this under-talented\u00a0UVa team, put together a nice regular season, and now picked up an ACC tournament win.\u00a0 Nice work, Tony.\u00a0 Ina, J, Stri, and Teddy got the Cavs right on Thursday.\u00a0 \u00a0<\/p>\n<p><em>#12 Miami (FL)\u00a083\u00a0&#8211; #5 Wake Forest 62<\/em>.\u00a0 This wasn&#8217;t just an upset, this was domination.\u00a0 From tip to horn, the\u00a0&#8216;Canes looked like the\u00a0big favorites in this one.\u00a0 You can&#8217;t feel good about your chances next week if you&#8217;re a Wake fan, huh?\u00a0 Bry, Ina, Doogan, Stri, Lohse, and Teddy all nailed this upset.\u00a0 KA lost a finalist.\u00a0 J,\u00a0Waters, and Lynch\u00a0all lost semifinalists.<\/p>\n<p><em>#7 Georgia Tech 62 &#8211; #10 N. Carolina 58<\/em>.\u00a0 And, the only favorite to win on Thursday actually trailed for most of the game, before coming through at the end.\u00a0 The end of one of the worst seasons in program history comes here for UNC.\u00a0 KA, Lil Lohse, Stri, Ina, and Bry all missed this upset pick.\u00a0 KA lost a semifinalist.<\/p>\n<p><em>#11 N.C. State 59\u00a0&#8211; #6 Clemson 57<\/em>.\u00a0 And, the one that rocked the CTC was this one.\u00a0 Clemson was beloved by the CTC&#8217;ers and they lose to the lowly Wolfpack.\u00a0 KA, Stri, and Doogan all nailed this upset pick.\u00a0 Stri even kept a semifinalist alive.\u00a0 Lil Lohse, Lynch, Alexi, J, Ina, and Bry all lost semifinalists.\u00a0 Lohse and KA both lost finalists.\u00a0 Madness!<\/p>\n<p>ACC STANDINGS:<br \/>\n160 &#8211; Stri<br \/>\n150 &#8211; Doogan (&#8217;09)<br \/>\n110 &#8211; Teddy<br \/>\n100 &#8211; Ina<br \/>\n90 &#8211; Lohse<br \/>\n80 &#8211; Bry (&#8217;08)<br \/>\n60 &#8211; KA<br \/>\n30 &#8211; J<br \/>\n10 &#8211; Alexi<br \/>\n10 &#8211; Lynch<br \/>\n0 &#8211; Lil Lohse<br \/>\n0 &#8211; Waters<\/p>\n<p><u><strong>SEC OPENING ROUND <\/strong><em>(10 points each):<\/em><\/u><br \/>\nThe SEC kicked off in Music City with an opening round quadruple-header.\u00a0 Stri, Alexi, and Teddy all went 4-for-4 to open the SEC campaign.\u00a0 Waters only got one.<\/p>\n<p><em>#4W Alabama 68 &#8211; #5E S. Carolina 63<\/em>.\u00a0 Devan Downey&#8217;s season is over.\u00a0 He was great, but the team wasn&#8217;t.\u00a0 &#8216;Bama moves on to get a shot at #1 Kentucky.\u00a0 Stri, Alexi, Lohse, Lynch, KA, and Teddy all got this one right.<\/p>\n<p><em>#3E Tennessee 59 &#8211; #6W LSU 49<\/em>.\u00a0 Tennessee struggled all day, but finally knocked off the Tigers.\u00a0 Did you guys know that Tasmin Mitchell was 17 points shy of TWO THOUSAND POINTS?\u00a0 Wow.\u00a0 They kept posting it during the game.\u00a0 He passed Chris Jackson and Shaq on the all-time LSU scoring list.\u00a0 He&#8217;s third behind Pistol Pete and some guy I&#8217;d never heard of, but the announcers seemed to think he was pretty good way back when.\u00a0 I didn&#8217;t realize the career he had down there.\u00a0 Waters was the only one to pick LSU, everyone else got this right.\u00a0 Most of the field has the Vols in the semis.\u00a0 Doogan and Lohse all kept a finalist.\u00a0 Lynch kept his champion.<\/p>\n<p><em>#4E Florida 78 &#8211; #5W Auburn 69<\/em>.\u00a0 The Gators also struggled, but won.\u00a0 They move on to face Mississippi St. in the quarters.\u00a0 KA missed this pick.\u00a0 Waters and Teddy kept a finalist alive.\u00a0 Several others kept alive a semifinalist.<\/p>\n<p><em>#6E Georgia\u00a077\u00a0&#8211; #3W Arkansas 64<\/em>.\u00a0 And, the one big upset of the day in Nashville was the Georgia Bulldogs taking out Arkansas.\u00a0 Teddy, KA, Alexi, Stri, Doogan, J, Ina, and Bry all got this nice upset, but it&#8217;s more important to some.\u00a0 Teddy has Georgia in the semis.\u00a0 Ina has Georgia in the finals, so this win was big for both of them.<\/p>\n<p>SEC STANDINGS:<br \/>\n*90 &#8211; Alexi (&#8217;09)<br \/>\n*90 &#8211; Stri<br \/>\n*90 &#8211; Teddy<br \/>\n80 &#8211; Bry<br \/>\n80 &#8211; Doogan<br \/>\n80 &#8211; Ina<br \/>\n80 &#8211; J<br \/>\n80 &#8211; KA<br \/>\n30 &#8211; Lohse<br \/>\n30 &#8211; Lynch<br \/>\n20 &#8211; Lil Lohse<br \/>\n10 &#8211; Waters (&#8217;08)<\/p>\n<p><u><strong>BIG TEN OPENING ROUND <\/strong><em>(10 points each):<\/em><\/u><br \/>\nThe Big Ten had three ho-hum opening round games in Indy on Thursday.\u00a0 Even though it was all chalk, only Lil Lohse got all three right.\u00a0 No one lost a semifinalist.<\/p>\n<p><em>#7 Northwestern 73 &#8211; #10 Indiana 58<\/em>.\u00a0 The Wildcats have never made the NCAA tournament.\u00a0 They still have a shot, after beating Indiana.\u00a0 Now, they will get Purdue in the quarters.\u00a0 J, Doogan, and the two Lohses were the only ones to get this right.<\/p>\n<p><em>#6 Minnesota 76 &#8211; #11 Penn St. 56<\/em>.\u00a0 Minnesota hammered PSU.\u00a0 The Gophers will now take on Michigan St. on Friday.\u00a0 Lohse, Teddy, J, Doogan, and Waters all missed this big upset pick.<\/p>\n<p><em>#8 Michigan\u00a059 &#8211; #9 Iowa 52<\/em>.\u00a0 The Wolverines still have a shot to redeem themselves after maybe the most disappointing regular season in the nation, as they take care of Iowa on Thursday.\u00a0 Michigan will now get Ohio St. in the quarters.\u00a0 Stri, Waters, and KA missed on this upset pick.<\/p>\n<p><u><strong>MOUNTAIN WEST QUARTERFINALS <\/strong><em>(16 points):<\/em><\/u><br \/>\nThe M-West got what it (or, at least, I) wanted&#8211;the top four teams to survive the quarters to set up an awesome semifinal double-header in Vegas.\u00a0 All chalk (in a top-heavy conference) makes it so there were very few incorrect picks here.\u00a0 Bry and Ina stay perfect, as they were one of many to go 4-for-4, but they also got the opening round game on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p><em>#1\u00a0New Mexico 75 &#8211; #9 Air Force 69<\/em>.\u00a0 New Mexico survived against Air Force, though it wasn&#8217;t pretty.\u00a0 Only Stri got this wrong (with Wyoming).\u00a0 Many entries have the Lobos winning this tournament.<\/p>\n<p><em>#4 San Diego St. 72 &#8211; #5 Colorado St. 71<\/em>.\u00a0 D.J. Gray hit two clutch free throws as the Aztecs survived against Colorado St.\u00a0 They will now get New Mexico on Friday night.\u00a0 Waters missed this one.\u00a0 Lynch and KA kept their champions alive.<\/p>\n<p><em>#2 BYU 95 &#8211; #7 TCU 85<\/em>.\u00a0 BYU struggled all night defensively, but in the end Jimmer Fredette won it for them, as he dropped 45 on the Horned Frogs.\u00a0 Everyone got this one right.\u00a0 Bry and Lohse kept their champs alive.<\/p>\n<p><em>#3 UNLV 73 &#8211; #6 Utah 61<\/em>.\u00a0 The Utes are a far cry of the team they used to be, as they got beat pretty bad by UNLV on Thursday night, to set up a date with BYU on Friday night.\u00a0 KA, Lil Lohse, and Lynch missed the upset pick here.\u00a0 Lynch and KA both lost a finalist here.<\/p>\n<p>MOUNTAIN WEST STANDINGS:<br \/>\n*80 &#8211; Bry<br \/>\n72 &#8211; Ina<br \/>\n64 &#8211; Alexi<br \/>\n64 &#8211; Doogan<br \/>\n64 &#8211; J (&#8217;08)<br \/>\n64\u00a0&#8211; KA<br \/>\n64 &#8211; Teddy<br \/>\n64 &#8211; Waters<br \/>\n48 &#8211; Lil Lohse<br \/>\n48 &#8211; Lohse<br \/>\n48 &#8211; Lynch (&#8217;09)<br \/>\n48 &#8211; Stri<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>CONFERENCE USA QUARTERFINALS <\/u><\/strong><em><u>(12 points each):<br \/>\n<\/u><\/em>The C-USA took a <em>huge <\/em>blow on Thursday, as their only two bubble teams both lost to lower teams.\u00a0 And, for the first time since 2006, the C-USA will crown a champion that doesn&#8217;t start with M-, and end with -emphis.<\/p>\n<p><em>#7 Houston\u00a066 &#8211;\u00a0#2 Memphis 65<\/em>.\u00a0 The Memphis Tigers lose in the conference tournament.\u00a0 This hasn&#8217;t happened since 2006.\u00a0 But, Tommy Penders and his Houston Cougars get it done.\u00a0 J, Lynch, and Lohse get this upset pick right.\u00a0 Stri, Waters, KA, and Teddy lost their champion.<\/p>\n<p><em>#6 S. Mississippi\u00a058 &#8211;\u00a0#3 UAB 44<\/em>.\u00a0 Another big upset of a C-USA team on the bubble is S. Miss over UAB.\u00a0 Cannibalization in the C-USA.\u00a0 Doogan and Lohse both nailed this upset pick.\u00a0 Lohse keeps his finalist alive.<\/p>\n<p><em>#5 Tulsa\u00a080 &#8211;\u00a0#4 Marshall 64<\/em>.\u00a0 Tulsa, at home, hammer Marshall in the second half to advance to the semis.\u00a0 Only J, Waters, Lynch, and KA got this one wrong.\u00a0 Waters lost a finalist.<\/p>\n<p><em>#1 UTEP 76 &#8211; #9 C. Michigan 60<\/em>.\u00a0The first game showed what we were in for in the MAC this year, as Western upset Central.\u00a0 Ina, Doogan, Alexi, Lil Lohse, and Teddy all nailed this upset pick.<\/p>\n<p><em>#3 Akron 97 &#8211; #6 E. State 59 &#8211; #6 MD-Eastern Shore 53<\/em>.\u00a0 S.C. State ended a nice season for Eastern Shore.\u00a0 Doogan had E.
