{"id":60,"date":"2007-12-16T18:03:59","date_gmt":"2007-12-16T23:03:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.broadstreetbelievers.com\/?p=60"},"modified":"2007-12-17T10:32:23","modified_gmt":"2007-12-17T15:32:23","slug":"some-things-just-never-change","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/broadstreetbelievers.com\/?p=60","title":{"rendered":"Some Things Just Never Change"},"content":{"rendered":"<p align=\"left\">I just want to preface my\u00a0halftime comments with the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>I am not normally a very negative person when it comes to Philly sports, honestly\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>I think Donovan McNabb is the best quarterback in team history<\/li>\n<li>I think\u00a0Andy Reid is the best coach in team history<\/li>\n<li>I think Reggie Brown is a solid NFL receiver and Kevin Curtis is a nice #3<\/li>\n<li>I\u00a0was in a tiny African village\u00a0for the entirety of the 2004\u00a0Super Bowl season.\u00a0 The only game I got to see was the Super Bowl, with French commentators<\/li>\n<li>Everything in my life is better when the Eagles beat the Cowboys,\u00a0so I am loving the 7-3 halftime lead<\/li>\n<li>If there is anything in the following rant that you haven&#8217;t heard before, then you probably don&#8217;t know what a &#8220;punt&#8221; is either<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>None of these things, however, will curb frustrations that have been building over many years now.\u00a0\u00a0I have heard\u00a0that the definition of insanity is to keep doing\u00a0something the same way, but expecting different results.\u00a0 I never thought that the Eagles front office was certifiably insane, but maybe we shouldn&#8217;t be too\u00a0quick to dismiss it.\u00a0 It is just so incredibly frustrating to see things over and over and over and over and over and over and ov&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" align=\"absMiddle\" width=\"412\" src=\"http:\/\/espn-att.starwave.com\/media\/nfl\/2005\/0512\/photo\/g_reid_et.jpg\" height=\"232\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This team has, for almost a decade now, been one of the top Super Bowl contenders year in and year out.\u00a0 However,\u00a0every year (except the one year that never happened to me) we have been compaining about the <em>exact <\/em>same thing&#8211;GET SOME RECEIVERS THAT CAN GET OPEN!!!\u00a0 It is really not that difficult of a concept.\u00a0 I have never been someone who believes that fans know more than front offices&#8211;in any sport.\u00a0 In fact, I get really annoyed when people even suggest that.\u00a0 But, this is different.\u00a0 The same complaint has been leveled for\u00a0almost A DECADE now.\u00a0 Why do they not get this?\u00a0 Why will they not address the problem of receivers that simply cannot get open???\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>I had a note to myself to write about McNabb&#8217;s\u00a0perpetual inaccuracy, but upon second thought, I\u00a0think that this is (and has always been) a direct result of the point made in the previous paragraph, so I will resist in piling on McNabb right now.\u00a0 However, I would like the record to show that the annual 56% completion rate is getting really old, regardless of the causes.<\/p>\n<p>Why can Andy\u00a0Reid, an intelligent man and a\u00a0great football coach, simply NOT UNDERSTAND how to manage the clock???\u00a0 Again, I know this has been rehased over and over again, in every capacity,\u00a0especially since the Super Bowl, but\u00a0COME ON&#8211;it has been almost ten years now that we have had to watch him bumble and stumble his way through timeouts in the first quarter, stupid challenges and, in today&#8217;s case, stupid NON-challenges.\u00a0 What was he possibly thinking when he called a timeout\u00a0to\u00a0THINK ABOUT WHETHER HE WANTED TO CHALLENGE???\u00a0\u00a0If you are willing to\u00a0burn the timeout, why not just throw the challenge flag???\u00a0 What is the worst that\u00a0happens?\u00a0\u00a0YOU LOSE A TIMEOUT!!!\u00a0 So, instead, Reid calls the timeout, decides to challenge, loses the challenge, thus losing another timeout, and then, at the end of the half, it looked like they were going to run out of time inside the 5-yard line&#8230;stop me\u00a0if you&#8217;ve heard this before.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>And, finally, another frustration that I have that has been overblown and just killed in the media.\u00a0 I don&#8217;t care, I&#8217;m going to say it anyway.\u00a0 RUN THE\u00a0GODDAM BALL!!!\u00a0 I don&#8217;t think there is anyone who knows anything about football that would say that Brian Westbrook is not the best offensive player on this football team right now.\u00a0 First half&#8211;NINE CARRIES???\u00a0 Thirty-eight plays, NINE carries.\u00a0 That&#8217;s 23.6%.\u00a0 Uh, what???<\/p>\n<p>The more things change, the more they stay the same.<\/p>\n<p>Anyway, second half is starting&#8230;GO BIRDS!<br \/>\n(I wonder if they&#8217;ve burned a timeout yet)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I just want to preface my\u00a0halftime comments with the following: I am not normally a very negative person when it comes to Philly sports, honestly\u00a0 I think Donovan McNabb is the best quarterback in team history I think\u00a0Andy Reid is &hellip;
