Somewhere amid the wreckage of last night\u2019s 38-17 debacle, you can find a 3-5 Eagles team showing only the faintest signs of a heartbeat.\u00a0 It only makes it worse that the near-fatal damage was inflicted by the Cowboys, with Terrell Owens leading the way.<\/p>\n
In today\u2019s Daily News, Rich Hofmann points out <\/font><\/a>\u00a0that the Eagles and Cowboys are\u00a0traditionally not good at the same time and that last night\u2019s game may have marked the beginning of a new era in the NFC East.\u00a0 Or the end of one, depending on how you look at it.<\/p>\n He might be right but I\u2019m not buying in yet.\u00a0 It\u2019s time to concede the division for this season and the Eagles have a quickly aging core, but the guys that built this team into the <\/em>NFC power for much of this decade are all still in place.\u00a0 I won\u2019t count them out yet.<\/p>\n Meanwhile, the Patriots solidified their status as the best team in the league after rallying from a 10-point deficit in the 4th quarter to win 24-20 in Indianapolis.\u00a0<\/p>\n Bill Belichick showed some of his typical defensive mastery by using an unorthodox scheme.\u00a0 For most of the game, the Pats used four down linemen (instead of their usual three) and five defensive backs.\u00a0 That left room for only two linebackers and pushed star LB\u00a0Adalius Thomas to the sidelines for most of the contest.\u00a0 The Boston Globe notes <\/a>that the Patriots defensive surprise was reminiscent of\u00a0what they did against the Eagles in Super Bowl XXXIX, when they came out in a 4-3 instead of their usual 3-4.<\/p>\n Still, with the Colts missing numerous key players\u00a0due to\u00a0injury, it could be anyone’s game if these teams were to see each other again in January.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" \u00a0Well, that could be just about all she wrote for the 2007 Philadelphia Eagles.
