I know that sounds like heresy, but I’ve thought long about about this (I spent an hour at the gym with nothing else to think about) and here is my reasoning:
- I’m working under the assumption that 9-6-1 won’t be enough to make the playoffs, so nothing matters if they don’t beat the Redskins tomorrow
- That means that the Dallas game next week is also a must-win, no matter what happens around the league
- To make it, the Eagles need 2 wins, but they also need a loss from either Atlanta or Tampa Bay
- But, here is the kicker: if Dallas wins tonight AND both Tampa Bay and Atlanta lose tomorrow (not totally out of the question, as Atlanta is a road dog against Minnesota and Tampa has an injured qb at home against San Diego), then the Cowboys clinch a playoff spot, and therefore, will be much more likely to rest injured players like Romo and Barber against the Eagles, making that game MUCH easier.
So, all that being said, a true Eagles fan is cheering for the Dallas Cowboys tonight–yeah, I know, I’m not sure I can do it either…
