An interesting Day Three of the 2012 CTC saw a decent amount of madness.
Big South Quarterfinals
This is where most of the day’s madness took place, and it wasn’t even exciting madness. VMI blew out #2-seeded Coastal Carolina, and Winthrop easily took care of #3 Campbell, setting up an incredibly unlikely semifinal. Dave, Doogan, Lil Lohse, Lynch, Primm, Teddy, and Waters all hit with Winthrop. And, the craziest part is that one of these very unlikely Big South finalists will hit REALLY big for someone. Both J and Lohse have 7th-seeded VMI reaching the finals; Doogan has 6th-seeded Winthrop; so, someone is in for a huge payday here.
In the nightcap, the chalk finally held, as #1 UNC-Asheville struggled early, but crushed High Point in the second half, while #4 Charleston-Southern took the opposite approach – pounding Liberty in the first half and barely holding on in the second. Most of the field has Asheville winning this thing, so it was nice to see the second half domination of an inferior opponent.
The big winners here were obviously J and Lohse, who nailed the VMI pick. Also, Doogan, who now has his upset pick as a favorite to reach the finals, as well as the other 6 people who nailed the Winthrop upset. Gersh, Mac, RDoc, RSmith, and Scoot all went 1-for-4 on the day in the Big South.
Ohio Valley Opening Round
#5 SEMO held it together and took care of E. Kentucky in the first game, costing a bunch of people a decent upset pick. The upset pick that did come through was Jacksonville St., who ended the interesting college career of TyShwan Edmondson, who did score 22 in his collegiate finale. A slew of people hit this mild upset pick and Alexi, Dave, Doogan, J, Lohse, and Teddy all keep alive JSU as a semifinalist. J and Teddy were the big winners, as they have JSU in the finals. The biggest loss here was to Gross, who had Austin Peay in the finals. RDoc also took a hit with AP in the semis.
5 people (Alexi, Dave, Gersh, and both Lohses) all hit both games. 6 people (Bry, Gross, Primm, Rikey, RSmith, and Waters) struck out, getting neither pick right.
A-Sun Quarterfinals
It wasn’t easy for either of the two top seeds, but both #1 Belmont and #2 Mercer came through in the A-Sun quarters. Bry missed the huge upset pick of Jacksonville over Belmont. Lynch and Waters missed the big pick of Lipscomb over Mercer. No one lost a finalist.
WCC Opening Round
Portland beat Santa Clara, ending the Broncos season at 0-17 in conference. The only noteworthy CTC development here is that RSmith lost a quarterfinalist in Santa Clara here.
I’d just like to point out that Villanova lost to that Santa Clara team that went 0-17 team in the WCC. Nice job, Nova!
And also, Winthrop. Nice.
What’s up, its nice piece of writing concerning media
print, we all understand media is a great source of facts.
