Before the season started, it was pretty generally accepted that this was Memphis’s conference to lose, but there was one team that could possibly challenge the Tigers this year, and that was Marshall. But, then they played the games. Memphis looks just okay, and Marshall didn’t look very good at all. And, then, when Memphis found their stride (ending up coming back and actually winning the league), Marshall continued to struggle. But, just when it looked like they were done, they found it. They finished in 6th place and were trailing early in their first round CUSA tournament game against SMU. But the Herd came back to blow out the Mustangs on Wednesday. Then, on Thursday they won one of the most ridiculous games I’ve ever seen – a triple-OT win over #3 Tulsa. Then, when you thought they couldn’t possibly have anything left yesterday, they go out and knock off a really good Southern Miss team, setting up this matchup with Memphis this morning.
Primm and Teddy lost their perfect C-USA bracket yesterday with the Marshall upset, and they also lost their possible conference title. Lohse, with the Marshall upset and a Memphis pick to win the title, snuck in and stole the 2012 C-USA title. Gross has the “money” division locked up.
#1 Memphis vs. #6 Southern Miss
This game is interesting every year because it is played at 11:30 am. Strange things happen in basketball games before noon. And, the bubble teams are rooting hard-core for Memphis to avoid any weird things this morning.
Alexi, Bry, Doogan, Gersh, Gross, Lohse, RDoc, RSmith, Scoot, Stri, Teddy, and Waters all have Memphis here. No one has Marshall, but every else will be rooting for them to zero this game out, especially Mac and Primm at the top of the overall standings.
