OK, well 2008 is here and from a Philly sports fan’s perspective, it looks pretty awful! The Eagles have (prematurely) entered the off-season, the Sixers stink, and the Phillies won’t kick-off spring training for well over a month still. Meanwhile, Villanova has won 14 straight Big 5 matchups, which really doesn’t make anyone happy. So, with little choice in the matter, we will look ahead, past these cold, depressing winter months, to see what may lie ahead.
8 Over/Unders for 2008:
- Eagles wins: 9
- Donovan McNabb starts: 10.5
- Kevin Kolb starts: 2.5
- Phillies wins: 90
- Ryan Howard home runs: 51
- Phillies MVP trophies: 0.5
- 76ers wins (this season): 33.5
- Patriots wins: 13.5
What you should really have is an over/under for Howard’s strikeouts. My guess is
225. And l know how much you like the Flyers, so I’ll predict that they’ll make 1st round of playoffs. Peace out.
I thought the NHL folded a coule years ago?
What’s the “N-H-L?”
Kinda late, but I still want to jump in on these lines:
Eagles wins: 9
*–Maybe I’m a homer, but I like the OVER on this. I think McNabb will be back and I think he and Westbrook alone will get them 6 or 7 wins. Throw in a resurrected defense and I like this team. Plus, I think that the Skins and Giants will probably take steps backwards.
Donovan McNabb starts: 10.5
*–In order for the first one to be over, this must be OVER, so I’ll take the over. I think he plays the whole year and healthy–for the Eagles.
Kevin Kolb starts: 2.5
*–UNDER (see above)
Phillies wins: 90
*–Again, maybe homerish, but I like the OVER. This team is going to be better this year than last because, just by the law of averages, they will be more healthy. Plus, another year older for Utley and Howard can only be a good thing.
Ryan Howard home runs: 51
*–UNDER. I don’t think people will pitch to him
Phillies MVP trophies: 0.5
*–UNDER. They won’t give the Phils 3 in a row, although I think that if someone wins it on this team, it won’t be either of the two that have won it the last 2 years. I think Utley has a real shot at it.
76ers wins (this season): 33.5
*–I see that that is exactly what they are on pace to reach. I think they’ve kind of played over their heads so far, though they have come back to earth (expectedly) on this west coast trip. Still, I don’t think they’re a 34-win team, so I’ll take the UNDER.
Patriots wins: 13.5
*–Great line! I have no idea, actually. I don’t think any of those divisional rivals are going to be any better, so that’s 6-0 right there. So, then, 8-2 in the other 10 games? Ya, ok, I’ll take the OVER, but it’s a great line.
