Is Donovan McNabb the fourth best quarterback in the NFC East, as claimed by ESPN’s Matt Mosley?

I think that’s easy to say today, after last night’s pretty terrible performance (a blog of my own will come, if I can rally myself on this arful, awful day). But, let’s not get crazy here. And, we’ll take the others one by one:

Eli Manning–Don’t tell anyone, but I’ve pulled a complete 180 on Eli Manning. I think he’s a very, very good quarterback, but let’s be patient. He did not really start playing this way until around this time last season, so he only has one full season of stardom under his belt. He’s never made a Pro Bowl and still relies more heavily on a running game than any QB in this division (not that that takes away from his ability, but it sure makes his job easier).

Tony Romo–Has never won a playoff game. Yes, I believe that Romo, like Manning, is also a very, very good quarterback, but like Manning, I’d like to see for a prolonged period of time. And (now unlike Manning–dammit), I’d like to see him do it in January.

Jason Campbell–Clearly the least proven of the four, Campbell has all of the “drawbacks” mentioned in the two paragraphs above. He has never won a playoff game, relies heavily on a strong running game, and has not been good for an extended period of time. When it’s all said and done, Campbell MIGHT have the best career of the bunch, but he CERTAINLY is not there yet. In fact, if I were starting a team to win this year, Campbell would easily be my last pick of these four.

So, in the end, Mr. Mosley may have been bitten by a spreading epidemic of “what have you done for me this week” disease (a week when half of these guys didn’t even play). Romo is hurt, Campbell is completely unproven, and Manning’s game was not exactly Hall of Fame material last night either, so let’s be careful before we make rash statements about potential Hall of Fame quarterbacks, with 5 Pro Bowls (3 more than the other divisional QBs combined) and an MVP, being the worst quarterbacks in their own division.

I guess I can’t really talk objectively about this. I’d take McNabb over Eli every time. Not to beat a dead horse, but if you put McNabb behind an 0-line playing like the Giants have this year and give him Burress as a target and wear-down-the-defense type running game, he would out-perform Eli. QB rating isn’t everything, but McNabb still has a higher rating than Eli this year. Actually, this is partly because they’ve been winning, but Eli hasn’t even thrown for over 200 yards for the last 5 straight games, and he single-handedly lost them the game against Cleveland.

I think I have to agree with Doogan on this one. In 10 seasons or whatever it’s been with the Eagles, McNabb has always been the most powerful running back in the backfield. I love Westbrook…let me repeat. I LOVE Westbrook, but he just isn’t a power runner. Give McNabb Portis for a game, Jacobs for a game, heck…give McNabb Marion Barber for a game and see what kind of quarterback he looks like.

That being said…I have completely turned around with Eli Manning. Sure he looks like his mother combs his hair still, but he looks decidedly more calm running his offense. Jason Campbell reminds me of a young McNabb when he was a developing quarterback. He looks better and better each season, but he’s still unproven. Tony Romo is the most overrated quarterback in the league. He sucks out loud. There, I said it.

I have always agreed with you guys on mcnabb, even when the majority of Philadelphia was (is) bashing him. However, I’m gonna have to go with Eli manning on this one. Not because he’s the leader of the super bowl champion and quite impressive this season giants, but because I’ve been told on more than a couple occasions that I look just like him.

I hate to say it, but when Romo is cooking, he’s a pretty good player. But I would take McNabb over Eli and Jason Campbell and if you asked Giants and Redskins fans, they’d agree.
