Question of the Day

Is it time to remove Brad Lidge from the closer role, either by putting him in a set-up role or “finding” an injury and putting him on the DL for a couple weeks?

I know that Lidge has been hardly lights-out this season (and that is putting it mildly to say the least) BUT after thinking about the weekend I feel that he deserves another chance to get on the right track. That grounder from Friday night’s game is one that Feliz fields correctly about 90% of the time. (don’t ask me where I got that percentage, but I think it’s actually higher) That one play would have given Lidge one more save, one less blown save, and a confidence boost going into Saturday’s game. At that point, who knows what would have happened with Saturday’s game.

Brad Lidge went perfect last season and helped us win a title that we were STARVED for, we are currently in 1st place in a banged-up NLEast, 2nd in the NL (and MLB) only to the Dodgers…he deserves another chance.

I’m with you. I posed the question after seeing that many Phils fans in “blogosphere” and the internet at large were calling for his head after Saturday’s game. I think it’s something that needs to be monitored and thought about, but it’s not time yet to make that move. Something else to keep in mind is that Lidge took exception when the Astros took him out of the closer role in ’07. You never really want to pander to a guy’s emotions or whatever, but it’s something to keep in mind. Certainly Charlie is the type of guy that will stick with a struggling player, maybe a little longer than he should sometimes, but in the end that’s why the players love him and deliver for him.

say that this write-up very pressured me to try and do so!
Your writing style has been surprised me. Thanks, very great post.
