Would Erik Bedard be an upgrade from Brett Myers?
Personally, I cannot speak objectively on this matter because I love Myers (not really sure why), and I live in Baltimore, so all I hear about is how awful of a person Bedard is.
I’d like him for this year. We need another starter and another arm in the pen.
Did you see how amazingly deep Boston’s pen is?
Yes, he’d be an upgrade and I’d take him. Bedard may be an awful person and a bad teammate, but I’ve never heard anything about him hitting his wife, so I think Myers is at least in the discussion with him as far as attitude concerns. Also, I’m more concerned about a guy being a good teammate when he’s a position player. Starting pitchers are kinda off in their own world anyway. Bedard gets a strike-out an inning, and has an opponents’ average in the .220’s over the last three seasons, in the AL. I’d take him, but at the right price, of course.
Bedard is nasty. And he can hit, too. Only knock is that he doesn’t usually go that deep into games. One/two runs over 6 innings with like 8 K’s is a typical Bedard line. Too bad we still fleeced the Mariners in the Adam Jones trade!
