Cimorelli’s Question of the Day

Say, hypothetically, Lovie Smith totally lost it, and gave up on Griese and Sexy Rexy (and, honestly, that might not be that crazy) and incorporated the following offensive strategy:  10 offensive lineman–or your 10 best run blockers–and a 15-yard shotgun formation with Devin Hester at “quarterback.”  Every play will be a variation on punt return formations and Hester will take the long snap and run–1940’s, single wing tailback style.  4th downs won’t change, with punts or FGs.

How many points per game does this team average over a full season?  With an above average defense, how many games do they win?

They average 3 points a game and win 0 games. Unless they play the Dolphins. Then they average 10 points a game and win one game.

I agree with Stri, I think if teams play smart they can contain him. If teams have the Super Genius of the World Mike Shanahan who invented football and decide to kick the ball down the middle of the field to him, they lose.

If your gonna do that you might as well line up the RB as QB and Hester as a single back or split him out and go the Navy route. If they did that I see them averaging 13 points a game and they go at least 6-10. You run the option pretty much every play with a pass in certain situations. You shorten the game and rely on your defense. I know I changed what you said but, whatever. They are having the superbowl hangover year you should expect. I see them coming out next year as the 12-4 playoff team that loses in their first postseason game.
