Which team would not make this trade? Any of them?
- Rams get Michael Vick and the Redskins first round pick (#4 overall)
- Redskins get Donovan McNabb and the Eagles first round pick (#24 overall)
- Eagles get the Rams first round pick (#1 overall)
Which team would not make this trade? Any of them?
I realize it’s March and that means college basketball and only college basketball, but I was thinking about while working out today, and I honestly can’t figure out which team wouldn’t do this deal.
-The Rams don’t want the #1 because they don’t want either D-tackle, so they can probably get whomever they want at #4 and only have to pay #4 money. Plus, they are looking for any way to excite their fans, and Michael Vick might do that (assuming that they believe the city will embrace him–if not, obviously this whole thing falls through).
-The Redskins get the Pro Bowl quarterback that they’ve so desperately coveted, and they have the money and (probably the desire) to sign him to the long-term deal that he would require.
-The Eagles get the #1 pick for two quarterbacks that they are quietly shopping any way. They can pick Suh, save the money on Peppers and sign a linebacker of O-lineman instead, and they can hand the keys to Kolb.
And, if they wanted, the Eagles could probably get a veteran insurance policy for Kolb in the deal. The ‘Skins might throw Jason Campbell in the deal (maybe for an extra fourth round pick). And, I’m sure the Rams would throw Bulger into the deal for basically nothing.
By the way, there are very few things that I would LESS prefer to see than McNabb in maroon and gold, so I hope this doesn’t happen, but I really can’t understand which team balks at this deal.
You? Working out?
Any reports that any of the teams are considering this?
And to answer the question, I don’t think the Redskins do it. Going from #4 to #24 is probably a bigger jump than McNabb is worth at this point.
The only report is that the Rams have been one of the most active teams with the Eagles. Apparently, they have made serious inquiries about ALL THREE of the Eagles QBs. Obviously, there has been no report of any of those inquiries involving the Eagles acquiring the #1 pick, which they clearly could not do without a third team involved. I have heard nothing about the Redskins, just thought that they were probably the only team with a high pick that might have interest in McNabb.
What if the Eagles threw in a 3rd round pick to the Skins?
Whether you agree with or not, I don’t think the Eagles would make that trade either. Giving up McNabb, the 24th pick, and Vick for Ndamukong Su? Su looks like a stud, but that’s a heck of a lot talent and assets to give up to get him.
