2014 CTC Day Thirteen: Stritts Dominates at Just the Right Time, Taking the Overall Lead with an Inside Track at a Championship

What a day at just the right time for the top rookie, Stritts, who wins the all-important Day Thirteen and, more importantly, takes the overall lead and has a clear path to victory.  Big days by Stri and Bry make it a 3-person race for the overall championship.

Bry made the biggest gains on the leaderboard on Saturday, picking up 7 spots to #3.  Teddy has had a meteoric rise in the past couple of days and picks up 6 more spots to #6 overall.  GrossSr has also gained a ton of ground lately and himself picks up 6 more spots.  Becks also gained 6 spots to 14th.  Stritts and Stri both gained 2 spots to #1 and #2.

The biggest falls on the day were J – who looked in serious contention before the rough day dropped him from 2nd to 9th – and Dave – who was looking like joining the fray before a disappointing Saturday sent him from 9th to 16th. Gersh, PapaCim, and RDoc all lost 4 spots on the leaderboard on the penultimate day.  The bottom has falled out for Colton, as he loses 3 more spots and the one-time top contender has fallen all the way to 21st.  And, perhaps the biggest fall belongs to Mac, who was threatening to run away with the competition before a brutal Saturday (of near-miss after near-miss) dropped him 3 places to 4th and mathematically eliminated any chance of him winning his second overall title.

I did some unofficial scenarios and – I THINK – that the title will belong to one of the top three (Stritts, Stri, or Bry).  If Michigan State wins, Stritts take the title, no matter what else happens.  If Michigan beats Michigan State, then Stri only needs a UVA win over Duke to take the overall crown.  If Michigan and Duke both win, then Bry still needs Kentucky to beat Florida or Stritts will take it.  As for the Money Division, there are still quite a few scenarios that (again, I think) keep in play GrossJr and GrossSr for a shot at the #2 spot.  GrossJr definitely needs a Michigan State win and losses by either VCU or Kentucky to overtake Bry.  GrossSr’s best chance is a Kentucky/LA-Lafayette combination, with some other help.  Also, Bry has a realistic chance to extend his incredibly frustrating streak of second-place overall finishes to four straight years.

There were a TON of conference titles handed out on Saturday, which will all be recapped in the final wrap-ups.  Enjoy the final day, and…

Merry Selection Sunday!
