Cimorelli’s Question of the Day

If a team comprised of this year’s best freshmen played a series of games against a team comprised of the best non-freshmen, what percentage would the team of freshmen win?

Honestly, I don’t think it would even be close. Check out this team that you could field with freshmen:

    PG Derrek Rose (Memphis)
    SG O.J. Mayo (USC)
    SF Eric Gordon (Indiana)
    PF Michael Beasley (K-State)
    C Kevin Love (UCLA)

Then, off the bench (or in any capacity):
    Jared Bayless (Arizona)
    Michael Harden (Arizona St.)
    Bill Walker (K-State)
    Patty Mills (St. Mary’s)
    Kyle Singler (Duke)
    DaJuan Blair (Pitt)
    Johnny Flynn (Syracuse)
    Nick Calathes (Florida)
    Austin Daye (Gonzaga)
    Kalin Lucas (Michigan St.)

I don’t think you can make a better team, even with all 3 classes of non-freshmen still playing in college. I’d go with an 80% winning percentage for Team-Freshmen

I have to agree. The only thing is you do probably need a SF. Gordon is no SF by any stretch of the imagination.

I do think you can make an legitimate argument that Mayo is not even Top 5 frosh this year. Bayless has been sick!!!

So, if you are a bottom feeder in the NBA, say Minn or Miami, and you have a ton of holes, who do you take first?

I would be curious to see what the Non-Frosh team would look like…

  4. Doogan says:

Yeah, I think you could make a pretty damn good team with the non-frosh, starting with Hansbrough and Lawson from UNC, all the guys from Kansas and Tennessee, D.J. Augustin….

  5. bry says:

I think the non-freshmen team would be really good, but not as good as the freshmen team.

I’d have to say the starting lineup would be:

    PG D.J. Augustin (Texas)
    SG Chris Lofton (Tennessee)
    SF Brandon Rush (Kansas)
    PF Tyler Hansborough (UNC)
    C Roy Hibbert (G’town)

Then the bench would be something like:

    Brook Lopez (Stanford)
    Shan Foster (Vandy)
    Chris Douglas-Roberts (Memphis)
    Drew Neitzel (Michigan St.)
    Drew Lavender (Xavier)
    Ty Lawson (UNC)
    DaMarcus Nelson (Duke)
    Darell Arthur (Kansas)
    Luke Harangody (Notre Dame)
    D.J. White (Indiana)

Very solid team, but the freshmen team is still better–at every position, except maybe SG because of Lofton and Foster. But, I would take a SG combo or Mayo, Gordon and Harden any day. The freshmen still win 3/4 of the games these two teams play against each other–period

  6. Doogan says:

I don’t know, Bry, I think it might be close. I’d take Augustin or Lawson over any freshman point guard. And I saw Harangody play right with Beasley earlier this season. I’d put Lopez in the starting lineup over Hibbert. I’d still pick the freshman team to win, which is fairly incredible, but it would be a tough game.
